Pros: Live game-play, not turn based.

Cons: Not Multiplayer.

The Assassin!

Jerusalem, 1191 AD during the brutal times of the Third Crusade. The streets are bustling with activity, but in a few seconds, everything will change – because of you, Altair, a feared Assassin.

This game boasts real time fighting, you can use many different tactics to decide the outcome of a fight such as, Brute Force, attack with full force until your enemy lets their guard down or cannot keep up, Tactical Assault, plan your attack first then get out quick, Run and Hide, make your move by killing your main target, then run to escape the other baddies chasing you, or even long distance, by throwing knives at your targets.

What I really liked most about this game, is how the battles are fought, it’s so unique, sometimes the crowd will join you in battle against your enemy, sometimes they will run away screaming, and they can even help your enemy! How’s that for a twist?

Would ya just look at that!

There is just so much you can do in this game, and with it’s beautiful graphics and stunning views, it makes the experience even more realistic. And the ability to grab an enemy in a fight, and throw them off a roof top makes my eyes beam with excitement!

You can climb walls, ride a horse, wield a sword or a hidden dagger and even get to play with throwing knives, This game has it all!

There are so many different scenarios, this game just seems to have an infinite number of outcomes and is well worth it!

Where to go… Hum…

Now to the rating, I am going to give this game a 9 out of 10 for Graphics, I actually felt as though I was falling off a roof when my character fell off. 10 out of 10 For the Gameplay, it’s the best in terms of gameplay that I have played to date. And finally, 8 out of 10 for sound. I will be rating this game at an overall rating of 4 out of 5! Fantastic work Ubisoft!

I would recommend this game to anyone who likes to be able to choose how they want to fight!

4 ★★★★

IOS
By Janus32

Introduction

There has been a sleeping giant, a dark horse, “come back from behind” team that has been lurking in the shadows for the past few years gathering developers to make games for a device that was primarily is used as a mobile phone (or Cell phone if you like to call it that). The creation of the “Smartphone” has made significant steps to be running with the big boys in terms of games. Sure you have the console race, but as I said the dark horse is the games of the mobile that have made an impact on the industry at this moment.

Jetpack Joyride (JJ) is a game that has been brought to the IOS from a company called Halfbrick Studios. This company has been in the business almost 10 years. Since its inception in 2002 with their first GameBoy Advance title of Rocket Power: Beach Bandits, Halfbrick have spanned a wide variety of handhelds. Avatar: The Last Airbender for the Nintendo DS and Fruit Ninja for the Iphone and Android mobile systems. Yes, that’s right, this company created the now famous Fruit Ninja. Its first month alone sold 200,000 copies and then by the time it hit 3 months it was calculated to have sold over one million units.

So that is some incredible statistics.
Though like everything else that is good in this world, some things are left high and dry and we have the bad moments in life.

Could this be one of them for Halfbrick?

Review

The premise of this game is simple, players will be in control of Barry Steakfries, yes the name eludes me as well, as he bursts through a wall and steals an experimental jetpack that is at first in the shape of a machine gun. Now all he has to do is get as far as possible collecting various items on the way to try to reach his goal of freedom.

This simple idea may sound unappealing, but playing the game, something clicks in your mind. More like one word…addictive. Barry starts off with a relatively interesting jetpack, but as he progresses in distance he can collect coins and then when he hits an obstacle and dies, the money he has collected can be spent items in “the stash”. You can purchase new clothes, new jetpacks, vehicle upgrades and utilities.

The clothes is just accessorizing, you can deck Barry in various amount of costumes, though not whole costumes. You have to pay twice for the top and the bottom of the costume. No added value other than sprucing up your character. Jetpacks are a whole different story. Ranging from a Bubble Gun Jetpack that expulses a jetstream of bubbles to a Fruit Jetpack that throws out fruit. Its wacky items that make the game interesting to strive for, save up the cash, gain the distance and buy new and exciting items. As you do your run as well, there will be floating tokens with an ‘X’ imprinted on them. Collect these to have chances to win in the slot machine. More on that in a paragraph.

With vehicle upgrades, you can purchase them for the vehicles that you manage to find as you do your run. They are not that hard to spot, a large rainbow squared cube that Barry touches then he is put in a vehicle at random. Ranging from a Harley Davidson lookalike motorbike called “Bad Hog” (And a shotgun you can use to shoot) to a mechanical dragon. These vehicles can make the run faster, but when you run into obstacles or get hit by an incoming rocket, the vehicle item disappears and you continue on your jetpack until you get hit again.

When you have a game over, you are presented with a slot machine. Of course a slot machine grants chances, provided that you managed to attain the slot tokens. The further you go in a run, the more tokens appear meaning of course more chances at the slot machine. The machine can grant you power-ups, cash and utility items for free that you can use in your next run.

Which brings me back to the “the stash”. Another section to buy is from the utilities screen. Here you can purchase items that you can use in your runs. From boosters to quick revives. These items will either get you started on distance and can range from helping you when you die or even propel you just a bit further in distance with bomb explosions.
Want to know more?…

Play the game yourself! At a pricetag of only $1, you’d be mad to miss a game with a simple objective, and with a whole lot of extras. And I haven’t even gone through half of them in detail yet.

Closing comments

For a game of that price, it is easy to lose some time and kill a few hours with Jetpack Joyride. It’s a game that doesn’t make you think, just forces you to persevere. This is a game that once you know how to control it, (just by tapping or hold your finger on the screen to initiate the jetpack) you will never forget how to play. A good time filler with a slew of extras.

Oh, and it looks like Halfbrick is here to stay…just sayin.
